Stress Analysis of a Plastic Tank Under Pressure and Heat
Induspac offers design, manufacturing and management services for packaging throughout North America, using unique combinations of materials to provide optimal products performance. Lx Sim mandate was to test the resistance of a plastic tank under pressure using a non-linear finite element analysis. Loads on the tank included the maximum pressure generated by the pump (60 PSI), an internal temperature of 42 ˚C (affecting material properties) and bolts torque (applied pre-stress). The particularity of this analysis is that the plastic, polybutylene terephthalate, has a non-linear behavior in this temperature range, requiring the use of a non-linear material model and analysis.

The analysis results validated the structural integrity of the tank under the load cases.
